Thank you all for coming today to pay your respects to my grandmother. I did not know my grandmother growing up. We lived across the country in New Mexico for the majority of my life, and often it was only my mother that came back to her home for the holidays and family gatherings. I was involved in so many sports and activities growing up that I could never seem to get away for an entire week to come with her. I saw my grandma a few times here and there, but I wasn’t involved in her life to the point that I felt like I knew her. Once I became an adult, all of that changed. I had heard so many great stories about my grandmother that I could not wait to finally spend more time with her. I had heard a lot of stories of her teaching my mother to cook, and about how delicious her biscuits and gravy tasted. I had also heard that she was an amazing seamstress. She used to make all of my mother’s clothing when she was growing up. When I finally had the pleasure of meeting my grandmother, it was a delight. We spent a lot of time together in the past few years. She taught me to cook biscuits and gravy, and how to sew. One of my favorite past times was to look at old photo albums with her. The hilarious hair styles that my mother used to have, and the day her and my grandfather got married were a couple of our favorites. My grandmother lived a long, happy life. She had no regrets, and went very peacefully. It was an honor to get to know her, and to be a part of such a wonderful person’s life. I am very grateful today that I chose to come home and to get to know my family. I am grateful that I got to spend that time learning to cook and sew, and looking through old photo albums. Those memories, like my grandmother, are priceless. I want to thank you all for coming today. It was wonderful to meet new family
members that I have not seen before, and it was great to see the old pictures of
my grandmother. It warms my heart to know that we all have sweet memories of her
that we will cherish forever. May she rest in peace.
