When I began to write this, I tried to think of words that I would use to describe my grandfather. Strong. My grandfather was a strong man, both physically and mentally. He told me stories of the war he served in, and of what it was like to serve in the military. Unless he was sick, he continued to exercise on a daily basis. My grandfather was also mentally strong. It seemed no matter what the situation was, he was able to keep a level head. Determined. My grandfather was a very determined man. Whether he wanted something or needed it, he overcame whatever obstacle he had to in order to accomplish his goals. It was truly astounding the way my grandfather never gave up. Instead, he remained determined. Talented. My grandfather was a very talented man. He loved to play the guitar, and often sat in his recliner in the living room playing songs for me and my brothers and sisters. My grandma used to tell me stories about the band he was in. To this day, I will never look at a Les Paul guitar without thinking of my grandfather. Forgiving. My grandpa was an extremely forgiving person. He believed in second chances, and was never one to hold grudges against another person. Sure, he might stay mad for a little bit, but he was quickly over it. He would never bring up the past either. Instead, he the type of man that would simply let things go. Fun. My grandfather was always fun. I remember when we were kids, I used to love to go to my grandparents’ house. My grandpa loved to take us places. We were always going out to eat, or to amusement parks. If we were not going somewhere, he would find something fun to do at the house, like making ice cream sundaes or maybe making some popcorn and having a movie night. All of these words and many more describe my grandfather. He was also a kind,
sweet man. He was caring, compassionate, and strong willed. His smile was
perfect, and his laugh was contagious. Thank you all for coming today, and my
thoughts and prayers are with you. I love you grandpa.
