My grandfather was a fun man, full of life and wonderful stories. One thing I will never forget is that he loved to play the lottery. He told me about one time that he won the lottery when I was a baby. He always used to buy me scratch off lottery tickets growing up. He told me about one time that he won five hundred dollars on a scratch off lottery ticket. Curious, I asked him what he did with the money that he had won. He just laughed. Then, he told me about how he had spent all of that money on more scratch off lottery tickets, convinced that he would win even more money. My grandma, who was standing nearby, started shaking her head and laughing. She told me that they spent hours scratching off all of those scratch off lottery tickets only to win twenty dollars. After she left the room, my grandpa smiled and whispered in my ear that it was because he had bought the smaller one dollar scratch offs. He said that the next time, we would get the twenty dollar ones and win more, but not to tell my grandma. I promised I wouldn’t. He did the same thing when we went out to eat. He loved to eat bacon and sausage, and would always tell me to just not tell my grandma. It was always funny to me, because my grandma always seemed to know everything that my grandfather did and ate anyway. It wasn’t good for him, but he did everything that made him happy until the day he died. He went fishing and hunting. He went dancing with my grandmother, and played with my daughter. My grandfather loved life until the very last minute of it, and I can’t help but feel blessed to have spent so much time with him. Thank you all for coming to grieve, offer support and celebrate the life that
my grandfather lived with us today. God bless you.
